Advanced tickets for the MAIN EVENT Evening Concerts are available at the Cheraw Community Center Monday-Friday 8:30 am until 5:00 pm or on this website. During the festival weekend, tickets and souvenirs will be available at Market Hall (corner of Market and Second Streets) Friday 2:00 pm-6:30 pm and Saturday 10:00 am-6:30 pm. This outreach program of the South Carolina Jazz Festival exposes students to the wonderful sounds of jazz.

"DIZZY" ON DISPLAY
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Southern African American Heritage Center, 125 Kershaw St.. Admission to view exhibit : $7 & $5. Enjoy a firsthand look at the life of Cheraw's favorite son. Several documentaries will be shown at the center. No charge to view documentaries.

JAZZ! Art Quilts in Performance exhibit
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm - Music on Market venue, 117 Market Street Presented by the Coulter Long National Alumni Association. Collection of jazz quilts by fiber artist Dr. Marlene Linton O'Bryant-Seabrook - courtesy of O'Bryant family. Featuring Dizzy: Bopped Out of South Carolina quilt & others from this collection.

A Little History at the Chapel
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Elaine's Wedding Chapel, 153 Second St. Hosted by Elaine's Wedding Chapel. Drop by and watch a short DVD about Cheraw & Dizzy Gillespie.

BEBOP PARADE & DIZZY’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Presented by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina
10:45 am: Gather at Corner of Kershaw Street & Second Street for parade lineup.
11:00 am: Parade begins … followed by Dizzy's birthday celebration at Centennial Park
"Empire Strikes Brass" provides jazzy tunes for the parade.

Second Line Umbrella Participants lead this fun-filled parade from Dizzy Park on Huger Street to downtown's Centennial Park. Join the Bebop excitement at any point along Kershaw and Second Streets. Bikes, trikes, golf carts and dancing shoes welcomed. At Centennial Park, celebrate Cheraw native Dizzy Gillespie's 101st birthday with a slice of birthday cake. Event canceled in the case of rain.

“THE UMBRELLA MAN” SECOND LINE DECORATED UMBRELLAS
There will be no rain on our Bebop Parade, however decorated umbrellas at Second Line Parades symbolize celebration, and these unique creations will be a great way to say, "Happy Birthday, Dizzy!" After all, "The Umbrella Man" was a favorite song Dizzy often performed. Decorate an umbrella and join the fun!

CENTENNIAL PARK
12:00 noon - 3:00 pm - Bring a lawn chair and enjoy jazz on a fall afternoon. Pack a picnic or pick up a take out - tables available at park. Free event..

JAZZ MASS
3:00 pm - Cheraw First Baptist Church - 126 Greene Street.
The festival concludes with community worship. Area clergy and musicians will lead this community worship service set in the tones of soulful jazz. The mass will be in the Family Life Center.

GILLESPIE PARK
Huger Street.
The Gillespie home site was transformed into a public park, and an historic marker honoring Dizzy was unveiled. South Carolina artist Bob Doster worked with Cheraw school children to create the park's modern sculpture and eclectic stainless steel benches. A stainless steel fence at the park entrance, depicting the notes to one of Dizzy's best known works, "Salt Peanuts," was also completed by Doster.

HISTORIC CHERAW CELLPHONE TOUR
Free self-guided tour includes Gillespie Home Site Park, the Gillespie's home church, and the school site where Dizzy attended. Tour brochures available at the Lyceum, Market Hall and the Chamber office.
